The Second UN DESA Global Workshop for the 2025 VNR countries was held in Berlin from April 7 to 9. The purpose of the workshop was to prepare for the United Nations High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), which took place in New York in July 2025. During the HLPF, 37 countries, including Germany, presented their Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs) detailing the progress made on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The initial day of the workshop offered government officials the chance to engage and network with German stakeholders representing civil society, the scientific community, youth, and local municipalities. Discussions centered on various implementation examples and expectations for the forthcoming HLPF. The focus for participants on the second day was on how to gather and utilize data to ensure reporting is both reflective and transparent. Furthermore, the attendees explored the function of VNRs as a key platform for fostering partnerships and facilitating learning across countries.
