At the 2nd Federal Congress "Urban Green Spaces – for a Future Worth Living"

(8 -9 May 2017), Federal Minister for the Environment Dr. Barbara Hendricks presented the federal government’s new white book “Urban Green Spaces” to around 450 guests at the Colosseum Theater in Essen. Following her remarks, representatives from the political, scientific, public administration and economic sectors discussed the new political guidelines and their practical implementation in discussion groups. The day concluded with an award ceremony for the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) student competition “Future Scenarios of a Greener City – Green In Tight Quarters” and with a presentation by the pilot community of ExWoSt research project, “Green Urban Labs”.

Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI) Forum

 – During the course of the G20 presidency, the annual GPFI Forum was held at the Hotel Intercontinental in Berlin from 2 to 3 May 2017. Around 270 international expert representatives from G20 countries and interested parties from non-G20 countries engaged in dialogue on the topic of financial inclusion.

International Expert Meeting

“Role of Higher Education, Science and New Alliances in the Context of the 2030 Agenda”: Experts and practitioners in the fields of higher education and science, and development and international cooperation, as well as partners from the political and private sectors met on 20/21 March 2017 for an extensive dialogue on these issues at the Berlin Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. The event was jointly organized by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), AvH Foundation, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), GIZ and KfW.

BMZ Future Forum: Making Globalisation Fair

In the winter and spring of 2016/2017 and within the framework of the three-part BMZ event series, Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Gerd Müller met with Federal Minister of Finance Wolfgang Schäuble, Economic Affairs Minister Sigmar Gabriel, and former Federal president of Germany Horst Köhler, to discuss the global financial order, global trade, and the new partnership with Africa. The goal of the event series was to debate the question “How do we design the world of tomorrow?” from various perspectives.

The Berlin Global Learning Forum

is a conference series (2015/2016), facilitated by German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the GIZ program “Global Alliances for Social Protection” promoting joint learning on social protection. It is based on a common conceptual outline with the South-South Learning Forum (SSLF) series promoted by World Bank’s Social Protection and Labor Global Practice. The SSLF brings together practitioners, decision makers and other stakeholders from around the world to share their experiences of social protection systems and learn from each other.

On the occasion of the 10 year anniversary

of the UN Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Association of German Development and Humanitarian Aid Non-Governmental Organizations (VENRO) hosted a joint international conference. Its theme was “Walking the talk – Celebrating 10 years of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: Milestones and challenges of inclusive development cooperation”.

The „Practitioners’ Dialogue on Climate Investements (PDCI)“

was an initiative of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). From the beginning of 2015 till the end of 2016, it offered a number of conferences, working group meetings and online seminars to provide a platform to policy makers from developing countries and emerging economies to engage with industry and financial sector representatives. The aim was to discuss and develop frameworks to encourage investments into climate friendly products and initiatives.
