In a spirit of listening and dialogue, over 150 representatives of more than 30 countries and international organizations met in Berlin on July 16th, 2024, for the Alliance’s 5th General Assembly. The event began the evening before with a reception at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
The General Assembly was chaired by the German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Svenja Schulze. During the event, the members of the Sahel Alliance reaffirmed their joint commitment to the region’s development priorities.
Following the General Assembly, a meeting was organised to exchange with civil society organisations and local authorities from the Sahel countries. More than 40 civil society organisations and local authorities from the Sahel region took part in the meeting, which was attended by over 150 people. The event concluded with a festive get-together at the Representative Office of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in the capital.
